Join Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as we honor Dr. Hector P. Garcia, local Mexican-American physician, World War II Veteran, and civil rights activist. The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Day Celebration will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. in the university’s Mary and Jeff Bell Library with the signing of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation Arts Building Gift followed by a presentation, “Dr. Hector P. Garcia: Doctor to the Barrios,” by Jacqueline Ochoa and reception. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Garcia, founder of the American GI Forum, fought for the rights of Hispanic Americans and veterans who were denied housing, medical, and educational opportunities. Since 2009, we have honored Dr. Garcia’s work and memory on the third Wednesday of September.
