Las Doña’s de la Corte present “The Court of Rarities, Curiosities & Wonders” Thursday, May 1, 2014 @ 7:30pm American Bank Center Selena Auditorium Ticket Price: $60 Tickets on sale Tuesday, April 15, 2014 @ 10:00am! Las Doña’s de la Corte is proud to present “The Court of Rarities, Curiosities and Wonders” on May 1, 2014 at the American Bank Center Selena Auditorium. This year marks the 61st year of the annual Buccaneer Days Coronation, which is rooted in history, resounds with pageantry and honors a rich and glorious heritage. In 1954, at the request of the Civitan Club, Las Doña’s de la Corte staged the first Buccaneer Days Coronation Pageant promoting Buccaneer Days festivities throughout the state. The King’s Men organization was formed to further publicize the city and to assist Las Doña’s de la Corte with the court. The Coronation is modeled after a royal court recalling the Spanish rule of Isabella and Ferdinand. King Alonso represents the 16th century explorer, Alonso de Pineda, who discovered Corpus Christi Bay. The presentation of the King and Queen is a closely guarded secret until the very end of the Coronation when they are crowned. Las Doña’s de la Corte is committed to producing a yearly coronation pageant rich in South Texas tradition and honoring local and out of town families. Throughout the 61 years, hundreds of families have participated in this community event. Several duchesses in this year’s court represent the second and third generation of their family’s participation. Mrs. Milton E. Lorenz, Jr., president of Las Doña’s de la Corte, has announced that the official Court Designer of this year’s 61st annual Coronation Pageant is Shelly Renfrow Porter with direction from Susan Crow Hicks, Wardrobe Chairman, who works closely with the artist. For almost two years 17 royal robes, dresses and trains have been designed to depict this year’s theme of “The Court of Rarities, Curiosities, and Wonders”. Each Duchess will be adorned in a magnificent hand tailored costume, which will showcase a collection of nature’s most unique and extraordinary phenomenon. The Duchess trains will serve as landscapes depicting these rare and curious wonders living in the world around us. Inspiration for this theme emerged through the palette of vibrant colors and intricate details held by the marvels of nature, oftentimes overlooked or those so rare, few have seen. Couturiers Georgette Afram, Gloria Bechara, Samia Bechara-Palfreyman, Andres Contreras, Monica Castillo and Lucy Salinas have brought the royal robe designs to life. It is with great pleasure that Las Dona’s de la Corte cordially invites the public to attend the 61st annual Buccaneer Days Coronation on May 1, 2014 at the American Bank Center Selena Auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m. Immediately following the Coronation is the Coronation Reception, which will be held upstairs in the Henry Garrett Ballroom at the American Bank Center. At the reception, guests will have the opportunity to meet the Duchesses and Royalty and observe the intricate designs of their costumes up close. Light hors-d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar will be available. The Royal Robes Display will be held from May 7th through June 1st at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, 100 Shoreline Blvd. Admission is free to the public. Tickets are $60 each and will be available on ticketmaster.com starting April 15, 2014.
