CAD/GIS Engineering Technician

Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team! This position will perform technical work related to engineering and planning functions for one of the nation’s largest ports. This position will cover a broad range of functions including but not limited to, design and drafting of in-house civil, structural, marine and other multi-disciplined engineering projects, development of conceptual infrastructure layouts, maintenance and organization of digital submittals, as-builts and record drawings and other graphic documentation using contemporary versions of AutoCAD, ArcGIS Pro computer software, and field support for collection of conventional & GPS based survey data; providing support the PCCA’s Engineering Department.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares in-house civil site, structural, marine, and multi-discipline engineering plans based on sketches and verbal instructions provided by engineers, project managers and senior designers/technicians
  • Uses collected field data to support design and drawing development
  • Prepares design concepts for new PCCA projects
  • Assists PCCA departments in developing permit drawings and quantity estimates
  • Prepares and updates standard drawings and design details
  • Prepares exhibits, maps, charts, and other presentation materials to support presentations to the Port Commission and to the general public
  • Supports maintenance of the Port’s Geodatabase by importing drawings, field data, and other information
  • Integrate project construction drawings onto PCCA servers as directed
  • Ability to assist in field inspections to assess site conditions
  • Collects field data using conventional methods & Trimble GPS / GIS equipment
  • Supports PCCA for the development of proposed and final lease or easement premises, metes and bounds descriptions, and map exhibits
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Adheres to Port policy and maintains good employee relations
  • Drives Port vehicles, as necessary to complete assigned tasks, courteously and safely and follows applicable procedures for vehicle use
  • CPR certified or the ability to become CPR certified within the first year of employment
  • Tier 2 status designation 
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The preferred candidate for this position should be an organized, thorough, and disciplined individual with demonstrated experience in computer aided drafting. The successful candidate should be a creative problem-solver with a collaborative style who can fit well within an energetic and dedicated team. They must possess the following:

EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS
  • Technical drafting and design technology associates or related bachelor’s degree or comparable experience 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment 
  • Valid driver’s license
EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE
  • Prior technical experience related to Port infrastructure and facilities, civil sitework, rail or waterfront preferred; other experience will be considered
  • Knowledge of GIS applications and Power point preferred
  • Prior experience with Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications, i.e. Photoshop, PowerPoint & Lightroom supporting digital presentations preferred
  • Familiarity with of Civil-3D or REVIT, BIM is a plus
  • Knowledge of drone UAV is a plus
  • Effective using Trimble, conventional survey methods or similar GPS survey equipment and Trimble Connect software preferred
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • AutoCAD experience required, Civil 3D experience is desired 
  • Experience in ArcGIS Pro and Trimble or similar GPS survey equipment desired
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams and other related applications

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, typing and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to work in a general office environment, and on a work site with exposure to adverse weather conditions, fumes and /or air particulates, working in high precarious places, risk of electrical shock and moving mechanical parts, moderate noise levels and working at heights, ability to wear personnel protective equipment, including hard hat, steel toed footwear, eye and hearing protection when performing work functions
  • Communicating verbally, in writing and over devices such as phones and mobile phones
  • Ability to operate mechanical and electrical equipment and light-weight highway vehicles and standard office equipment and to work the requisite hours to fulfill position objectives, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed
