Safety Field Representative

Hiring Range: $53,060.80 - $67,398.24/Year. It is anticipated the hiring rate offered will be +/- the midpoint range depending on qualifications.

Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team! This position will perform complex field safety tasks, provide extensive safety support to field operations and assist in coordinating all facets of the Safety Office operations in the field, primarily for Bulk Terminal and Maintenance facilities; while providing support to the Safety Manager. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs complex field safety tasks and provides extensive safety support to field operations during daylight/night hours in a professional and confidential manner, maintaining the integrity of the PCCA
  • Conducts frequent and regular safety checks of the work environment, equipment and personnel working therein
  • Works with field operations personnel to identify, address and resolve safety hazards and safety controls; assists field operations in identifying effective personal protective equipment and opportunities to maintain a safe work environment
  • Provides safety coaching and guidance to field operations through active engagement in field operations daily routine and promotes safety awareness through coordination of various forms of communications (i.e. tailgate meetings, safety share, agendas, meeting minutes, newsletters, reports)
  • Relays complex instructions and information to other PCCA personnel in the absence of the Safety Manager
  • Assists with identifying safety training needs of operations personnel and provides regular safety training as directed by Safety Manager
  • Assists with researching relevant topics for presenting and participation in daily/weekly/monthly safety meetings with all field operations
  • Assists and advises field operations in preparation of complex documents including safety guidelines, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard Recognition, Incident/Injury Reports and Accident Investigations for submission to Safety Manager
  • Supports and assists Safety Manager in communicating with officials, contractors and customers and assists with establishing and maintaining a network with Port industry to assure effective communication and relations
  • Manages coordination of all operations safety equipment inventory (i.e. inspection, storage, purchase, dispensing, etc.)
  • Maintains accurate and complete records regarding safety training (i.e. equipment, policy/procedure) as directed
  • Contributes with the identification, investigation and submitting of reports regarding near-misses, incidents, and injuries as directed
  • Assists with all field operations emergency response planning and drills
  • Actively participates in the Cross Functional Safety Advocacy Group
  • Adheres to Port policy and maintains good employee relations
  • Drives vehicle as necessary to complete assigned tasks and works required hours to fulfill position objectives
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • CPR certified or the ability to become CPR certified within the first year of employment
  • Tier 2 status designation 

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The preferred candidate for this position should be an organized, thorough, and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining optimal integrity in support of the PCCA. They must possess the following:

EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 30 credit hours of college courses, preferably safety related
  • OSHA 10 certification/Confined Space Entry competent person
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment 
  • Valid driver’s license

EXPERIENCE & JOB KNOWLEDGE
  • Minimum two years of work experience in a safety or occupational health related position
  • Knowledge of safety and occupational health methods and theories

TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Proficiency with a computer and MS Word, Windows, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, email systems and the internet
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply all PCCA policies, promotes and adheres to the SEAPORT values, state/federal laws
  • Maintain good employee relations and encourages and fosters a helpful environment where teamwork prevails. Assists senior management and office staff where appropriate
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public, and to stay current on legislation/regulations pertaining to the assigned areas of responsibility
  • Ability to prepare complete written reports and to interface effectively with diverse groups
  • Proficiency in reading, interpreting and formulating JSA’s, policy and procedures
  • Flexible and capable of working in a demanding environment with ability to work well with a fast-paced department, tight deadlines, and a multitude of projects and changing priorities
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking and conflict resolution abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with a structured environment

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to perform essential job functions, including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, typing and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation 
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined, climb stairs, ramps, ladders and work stands. Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp/handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders
  • Ability to work in a general office environment, with some exposure to the elements when visiting worksites 
  • Ability to operate light-weight highway vehicles and standard office equipment and to work the requisite hours to fulfill position objectives, including evenings and/or weekends, as needed
